Eefje Bouwkamp is inspired and amazed by the purity of nature and the human desire for an arcadian landscape. The seeming harmony of symmetry plays an important role in this phenomenon. Her work can be interpreted as constructed copies of reality, she expresses herself in an imaginary world carefully built from pieces of paper. The process is an endless search, a puzzle of paper thoughts. Her nostalgic fantasy of an idealized memory contrasts with the intens focus of the realistic image. The space in between, the grey area, intriques her, the balance between imagination and reality, heaven and hell, nature and culture. The tension between these often elusive concepts is the starting point of a new work.
